Record Safety Plan Authorization and Signatures

Process: Record a safety plan

The safety plan is a voluntary agreement between the parent(s) or custodian(s), the agency, and any other person responsible for activities to ensure the safety of the children.

The worker must receive authorization for a safety plan from the child’s parent(s) and/or custodian(s) in order to implement the safety plan. If the parents are married, reside in the same household, or share parenting under a court order, both parents must authorize the safety plan. If the parents refuse to sign the safety plan, you must explore other safety interventions.

To record the authorization from the child's parent(s) or custodian(s) as follows:

  1. In the safety plan, click the Authorizations tab. The Maintain Safety Plan Authorizations screen appears.

  2. Complete the fields on this screen to indicate the approval of the parent(s) or custodian(s) as well as any other participants in the plan.

  3. Click the Validate Approval button. The system checks that all information required to complete the safety plan has been entered. If any details are missing, the system displays a dialog box listing the missing information.

  4. Click the OK button.

  5. Complete any missing information, then repeat steps 3 and 4 until the plan passes validation.

  6. Click the Process Approval button. The Process Approval screen appears.

  7. In the Action field, make a selection from the drop-down list.

  8. In the Reviewers/Approvers field, make a selection from the drop-down list.

  9. Click the Save button. You are returned to the Safety Plans list screen, and the safety plan is sent to your supervisor for approval.
