View a Child's Legal Status

When a child's legal status is recorded in SACWIS, the information can be viewed from several places within the system.

• Agency: Includes all types of PCSA agencies custody or court-ordered protective supervision.

• Child: Includes all types of custody held by any entity other than the PCSA (that is, relative, DYS, Title IV-E, Court).

If a legal status change is associated with a court ruling, you can view it from the ruling record on the case. The legal status is part of the child's person profile.

• View a child's legal status from the person profile.

  1. Display the child's person profile.

  2. From the Person Profile screen, click the SACWIS History link, which appears above the row of tabs to the right. The SACWIS History screen appears.

  3. Click the Case Member History link. Select the Case ID number link. The Case Overview screen appears.

  4. Select Legal Custody/Status link in the navigation bar on the left. The Legal Custody and Status Filter Criteria screen appears.

  5. Click Maintain Custody/Status link next to the participant's name. The Legal Information Filter Criteria screen appears.

  6. Click View, Edit or Ruling link for existing custody episodes. Click Add Custody Episode to record new custody episodes. The Child Legal Status Details screen appears.

  7. Click Close. You are returned to the Legal Information Filter Criteria screen.

  8. Click Close. You are returned to the Legal Information Filter Criteria screen.

• View a child's legal status from the court area of the case record

  1. From the Home screen, click the Case tab.

  2. Click the Workload tab. The Case Workload screen appears.

  3. Click the Case ID number link of the case you want to view. The Case Overview screen appears.

  4. Select Legal Custody/Status link in the navigation bar on the left. The Legal Custody and Status Filter Criteria screen appears.

  5. Click Maintain Custody/Status link next to the participant's name. The Legal Information Filter Criteria screen appears.

  6. Click View, Edit or Ruling link for existing custody episodes. Click Add Custody Episode to record new custody episodes. The Child Legal Status Details screen appears.

  7. Click Close. You are returned to the Legal Information Filter Criteria screen.

  8. Click Close. You are returned to the Legal Information Filter Criteria screen.

A child may have one active legal status record of each of these types:
