Ruling information screen

This screen allows you to view, add, or update the rulings, orders, and dispositions from a court hearing held for a child with an open case in the system. (See About court information.)

If the ruling causes a change in a child's legal status, the Add Legal Status button allows you to update the child's legal status on the person profile. If a new legal status is granted at the hearing, you must be sure to end-date the previous legal status of the same type (child legal status or agency legal status) before adding a new legal status.

The Associate Jurisdiction Transfer button allows you to record the court file stamp acceptance date, as well as the name and other details of the receiving court.

Fields on this screen

Action Participant	Select the case participant to which this ruling relates. This menu lists persons who have been added to the case as a participant. This field is required.
Court Case Number	If a court case number was entered on the legal action record, the system displays that number here. Otherwise, enter the court case number, which is a court-assigned number that includes all children in a family.
Court ID Number	If a court ID number was entered on the legal action record, the system displays that number here. Otherwise, enter the court ID number, which is a court-assigned unique number given to each child in a family.
Date of Ruling	Enter the date on which the court issued the ruling. Use the format MM/DD/YYYY. You must enter either a ruling date or a journalized date.
Journalized Date	Enter the journalized date. Use the format MM/DD/YYYY. You must enter either the date of the hearing or ruling or the date the journal entry was journalized (stamped by the Court).
Hearing Status	Select the hearing status.
Ruling Type	Select a ruling type. This field is required.
Ruling Received	Select the ruling(s) the court handed down, then click Add>>. You can select more than one ruling.
Appeal/Objection to Ruling	Select this check box if an appeal or objection was filed in response to the ruling. When you select this check box, the Search Person button is enabled.
Appeal Filed On Behalf Of	Click Search Person, then select the case member to whom the appeal applies. This field is enabled when you select the Appeal/Objection to Ruling check box.
Stay Issued	Select this check box if a stay was issued on this ruling.
Ruling has been Created in Error	Select this check box if this ruling record was created in error and you want to invalidate it. Note the following: You cannot invalidate a ruling if another legal action is currently linked to it. You cannot invalidate a ruling associated with an open legal status that has an open IV-E record. You cannot delete a ruling record.
