Group a Legal Action

Legal actions are child-based in SACWIS and actions can be grouped with other actions or grouped independently. Legal actions are created, or recorded with the specific case participant of the case. A new legal action may be grouped to an existing legal action, to create series of legal actions that represents the flow of events on a court case. For example, if you file a complaint as the first initial court action for that case, you can group all legal actions subsequent to that complaint to show the progression of legal activities.

You can group any legal actions or group them independently.

Group legal actions as follows:

  1. From the Home screen, click the Case tab.

  2. Click the Workload tab. The Case Workload screen appears.

  3. Click the Case ID number link for the case you want to update. The Case Overview screen appears.

  4. Click the Legal Actions link in the navigation bar on the left. The Case Legal Actions / Delinquency Participants Filter Criteria screen appears. From this location, you can access and maintain all legal actions associated with this case.

  5. In the Case Legal Actions / Delinquency Participants table; select Maintain Legal Action next to the case participant you want to add a complaint. The Participant Legal Action Filter Criteria screen appears.

  6. Click the next to the ruling with which you want to group rulings. The field expands.

  7. Select the Legal Action you want to group. Click Add Action button. The system displays the screen Details for the action you selected to group.

    Note:
This link does not appear for subpoenas. While you can link a subpoena to an existing legal action, new legal actions cannot be linked TO the subpoena. That is, a subpoena cannot be the root legal action in a series.

  8. In the Legal Action field, select the type of legal action you are adding and linking to this legal action that's displayed.

  9. Click the Add Action button. The detail screen for the legal action you selected appears.

  10. Complete the legal action details. The legal action record you create is linked to the original action you selected on the Legal Actions list screen.
