Legal custody episode & status information

Type

Select the type. Select Child if the agency does not have legal custody, for example, grandparents have custody. Select Agency if  the agency has legal custody for example, temporary custody. This field is required.

Legal Status

Select the child's legal status. This field is required. It is enabled when a new legal status record is being created from the Ruling Information field.

Initial Agency Legal Status for Custody Episode

Select Yes if this is the initial custody status for the current custody episode. This field is required when Agency is selected in the Type field.

When you select Yes and save the record,  the system automatically creates an initial IV-E FCM eligibility determination record in "Pending" status for the current custody period.  The effective date on the eligibility record is the custody effective date on the legal record. The eligibility worker receives a notification stating that an eligibility record has been created.

Until the current custody episode is terminated, a newly created agency legal status record will pre-fill with a value of  No and is disabled.

This field is disabled for child legal statuses and for agency legal statuses of Court Ordered Protective Supervision, Court Ordered Protective Supervision Extension, and Temporary Court Order of Protective Supervision.

Effective Date

Enter the date this legal status record is effective. Use the format MM/DD/YYYY. This field is required.

Effective Time

Enter the time the legal status became effective. Use the format HH:MM.

Expiration Date

Enter the date on which this legal status is set to expire. Use the format MM/DD/YYYY. This field is required.

Termination Date

Enter the date on which this legal status was terminated. Use the format MM/DD/YYYY.

If Terminated, Reason

Enter the reason for the termination.

Current Episode Terminated?

Select Yes if the current custody episode has ended. When you select Yes and save the record, the system:

• Ends the current eligibility determination record, applying the custody termination as the eligibility determination termination date. In this instance, the system sends a notification to the eligibility worker.

• Ends the current reimbursability determination record, applying the custody termination as the reimbursability termination date. In this instance, the system sends a notification to the eligibility worker.

• Ensures that the termination date for this custody episode is not before the current reimbursability start date for this episode.

This field is disabled for child legal statuses and for agency legal statuses of Court Ordered Protective Supervision, Court Ordered Protective Supervision Extension and Temporary Court Order of Protective Supervision.

Narrative

Enter an explanation behind the change in legal status. You can enter up to 500 characters.

Created in Error

Select this check box to indicate that this legal status record was created in error. (You cannot delete legal status records.)

If Yes was selected in the Initial Agency Legal Status for Custody Episode field, you cannot indicate that this record was created in error if the eligibility determination record linked to this legal status record is in "Complete" status. If the linked eligibility determination record is in "Pending" status, the system deletes that record when you indicate that this legal status record was created in error.

The following fields appear when you display this screen from the person profile and select Officer Acceptance in the Legal Status field.

Law Enforcement Report ID

Enter the ID number of the report prepared by a law enforcement agency. You can enter up to 25 characters.

District ID

Enter the ID of the judicial district. You can enter up to 25 characters.

Department

Enter the name of law enforcement department. You can enter up to 50 characters.

Officer Name

Enter the first and last names of the law enforcement office involved in this case. You can enter up to 50 characters.

Badge Number

Enter the office's badge number. You can enter up to 15 characters.
