Create a Legal Complaint

You "create" a complaint to add the legal action to a case and to generate a document that you are filing with a court. When you create the complaint record, you enter more information in Ohio SACWIS than you do when you record a complaint that has already been filed with the court. Legal actions are child-based in SACWIS and actions can be grouped with other actions or grouped independently. Legal actions are created, or recorded with the specific case participant of the case.  (See Record a Legal Complaint if the complaint has already been filed with the court.)

You can record a stand-alone complaint record, or group it to an existing legal action. (See Record a Linked Legal Action, then continue at the Complaint Details screen mentioned below.)

To create a legal complaint, complete the following:

  1. From the Home screen, click the Case tab.

  2. Click the Workload tab. The Case Workload screen appears.

  3. Click the Case ID number link for the case you want to update. The Case Overview screen appears.

  4. Click the Legal Actions link in the menu on the left. The Case Legal Actions / Delinquency Participants Filter Criteria screen appears. From this location, you can access and maintain all legal actions associated with this case.

  5. In the Case Legal Actions / Delinquency Participants table; select Maintain Legal Action next to the case participant you want to add a complaint. The Participant Legal Action Filter Criteria screen appears.

  6. In the Participant Legal Action Information table; select Create Complaint from the Legal Action field.

  7. Click the Add Legal Action and Grouping button. The Complaint Details screen appears. Required fields are type of complain, date submitted, and preferred primary disposition.

  8. Click Save. You are returned to the Participant Legal Action Filter Criteria screen.

  9. Click the Report link for the complaint record you just added. The Document Details screen appears.

  10. Click the Generate Report button. The Court Complaint screen appears.

  11. In the Worker Appearing in Court field, select the appropriate name.

  12. Click the Generate Report button again. The report appears in a PDF.

  13. To save the report to the report history in the Ohio SACWIS database, click the Save button in the lower-left portion of the screen.

  14. To print the report, click the print icon in the PDF tool bar.

Do not use the printing function on your browser tool bar or menu.
