Record a Risk Assessment (Ongoing)

Process: Record an ongoing case assessment/investigation

The risk assessment tool, completed for CA/N reports, helps you determine how likely the family is to maltreat their children in the future. The risk assessment classifies families based on similar characteristics with families who have or have not repeatedly maltreated their children. As an actuarial risk assessment tool, it differentiates cases with intensive, high, moderate, or low classification categories.

To record a risk assessment, complete the following steps:

  1. Click the Risk Assessment tab or the Risk Reassessment tab, whichever is enabled. The Risk Assessment tab is enabled if a risk assessment was not completed as part of an approved family assessment. The Risk Reassessment tab is enable if a risk assessment was completed.

  2. Select the radio button next to the answer for each item listed on the Risk Score screen. You must select one of the buttons labeled a, b, c, or d.

  3. Click the Calculate Scores button. The system determines a risk score based on your selections.

  4. If you change an answer after clicking the Calculate Scores button you cannot move away from this screen until you click the button again to recalculate the scores. If you previously entered a rationale for an answer, you may need to re-enter the rationale to correspond with the revised scoring.

  5. Click the Edit link next to the item number. The Risk Element Rationale Details screen appears.

  6. In the narrative field, describe the reasoning behind your assessment for that item.

  7. Click the OK button. You are returned to the Risk Elements screen.

  8. Repeat steps 5 through 7 for each item.

  9. Click the Policy Overrides link. This screen displays the actual risk level determined by the system.

  10. If you are overriding the actual risk level, select Yes in the Apply Policy Override field. If you are not overriding the actual risk level, select No in this field, then go to step 13.

  11. Select the check box next to the reason for the override. The system displays the level to which you can override the actual risk score.

  12. In the narrative field, explain in more detail the reason for the override.

  13. Click Apply to save the information.

  14. Click Next Task to continue.
