Record a Family Description

Process: Record a home study

The family description includes a series of narratives that describe the applicant(s), other household members, and the overall support and situation of the family.

Record a family description as follows:

1. From the Home Study Information screen, click the Description of Family link. The Description of Family screen appears.
   
   If you are completing a family description outside of a home study, display the Provider Overview screen and click the Description of Family link in the menu on the left. Go to step 3.

2. Click Maintain Description of Family. The Maintain Description of Family screen appears.

3. Open a family description record.

   • To create a new family description record, click Add Family Description. The Description of Family Details screen appears. Complete the fields on this screen, then click Save. The Description of Family Details screen appears again, with links to narratives.

   • To update or add to an existing home study record, click the edit link next to it. The Description of Family Details screen appears, with links to narratives.

4. Complete the Effective Date field.

5. Complete the applicant narratives.

   1. Click the Applicant Narratives link. The Maintain Application Narratives screen appears.

   2. Click the Edit link under a statement and next to each applicant to whom the statement applies. The Narrative Details screen appears. The name of the applicant and the topic appear above the text field.

   3. In the Narrative field, enter a detailed response to the statement.

   4. Click Save. You are returned to the Applicant Narratives screen.

   5. Repeat steps b-d for each statement that applies to the applicant.

   6. Click Close. You are returned to the Description of Family Details screen.

    

6. Complete the member narratives.

   1. Click the Member Narratives link. The Member Narratives screen appears. It displays statements related to non-applicant adults in the home and other child household members (if any). A narrative instruction appears at the top of each table on the screen. You must address this instruction for each member listed.

   2. Click the Edit link for the member name you want to update. The Narrative Details screen appears. The name of the member appears above the text field

   3. Enter a response to the narrative instruction in the Narrative field.

   4. Click Save. You are returned to the Member Narratives screen.

   5. Repeat steps b-d for each member listed.

   6. Click Close. You are returned to the Description of Family Details screen.

    

7. Complete the family narratives.

   1. Click the Family Narratives link. The Family Narrative screen appears. It lists a number of statements to which you must write a narrative response.

   2. Click the Edit link next to a statement. The Narrative Details screen appears. The statement to which you are responding appears above the text field.

   3. Enter a response to the narrative instruction in the Narrative field.

   4. Click Save. You are returned to the Family Narratives screen.

   5. Repeat steps b-d for each statement.

   6. Click Close. You are returned to the Description of Family Details screen.

    

8. Click Close. You are returned to the Maintain Description of Family screen.

9. Click Close. You are returned to the Description of Family Information screen.

10. Click Close. You are returned to the Maintain Home Study Information screen.

11. Click Next Task below to continue with the home study.
